BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY
Mattia BIOLI (1996, Sassuolo – Italy) is a filmmaker and artist. He created different inter-medial projects experimenting every type of media and technique, from photography to animation. His short films have been exhibited at several national and international film festivals, including Visioni Italiane (Cineteca Bologna), Piccolo Grande Cinema (Cineteca Milano), Minikino Film Week, Filmfest Bremen, TOFUZI, Kino Otok, Ribalta Experimental, Linea d’Ombra, IBRIDA Festival. At the same time, he has been running a YouTube channel since 2014, where he tells the background of his personal works

DIRECTOR’S NOTES

The fragile resolution allowed me to bring life to a deceptive world where even a white dot is not distinguished from the moon. The protagonist herself is camouflaged in heaps of pixels. She interacts in an alien dialogue with a visually talking sky that she doesn’t really listen to, being too focused on looking for her missing dog.

Explored like a video game, the forest becomes a sort of interactive box. Here an invisible wall of pixelated trees does not allow to realize the gravity of the situation outside.
Only imagination fills the gap between what can be seen and what can be just heard. This represents the maximum actualization of deception.

Despite VHS equipments appear like real “walking wreckages” nowadays, the analogic tape can be considered nearly futuristic. It does not differ from the current cameras, but it is humbly aware of its undefined fate. Its survival only depends on the randomness of conservation. Termal shock and humidity are enough to damage all the footage irreversibly.
This awareness of the not-preservation of my film broadened new language perspectives.
